Weight Watchers Freestyle Program

Happy (almost) 2018, my Weight Watchers friends! New changes are coming as I mentioned in my former blog post: the Weight Watchers Freestyle Program, promised to be simpler, more beneficial, and more true to life. So what’s the Freestyle Program all about?

What is the New Weight Watchers Freestyle Program?

Freestyle is the latest incarnation of the Weight Watchers program, an ever-improving organization with nutrition and member success at its heart. Each participant is given a certain number of SmartPoints based on four factors (gender, age, height, and weight). Armed with these points, participants shop and plan their meals accordingly, budgeting their points for the day. In this way, members can expect to lose a healthy 1-2 pounds per week.

How is the Freestyle Program Different?

Here are some of Freestyle’s positive changes promoting choice, flexibility, and FREEdom (hence the Freestyle name!):

  • Expanded list of Zero Point foods
  • Many foods decreased in SmartPoints; none increased
  • Rollover Points
  • Participants’ daily points will be recalibrated and often lowered
  • Fresh encouragement and resources for getting active

Weight Watchers has kept their time-tested SmartPoints system, but now it is promised to be even easier to implement in everyday life, beginning with more Zero Point foods.

Over 200 Zero Points Foods in Weight Watchers Freestyle

All your favorite whole foods from the old list, now expanded to include a larger variety of healthy choices. And they may be foods you wouldn’t expect! Hello unlimited seafood, chicken, eggs, non-fat yogurt, beans, corn, fruits, veggies, and so much more.

Foods on the Zero Points list form the foundation of lifelong healthy eating, so it makes sense that these get a free pass. We should all be making the shift toward choosing more vegetables, fish, chicken, and fruit, and no point counting is a terrific incentive.

Grilled salmon garnished with lemon juice and sea salt . . . an enormous egg and red bell pepper omelet . . . sautéed chicken breast with snap peas and curry . . . all these dishes and any others you create are available to you without needing to track any of them. So put away your scale and enjoy!

On the Freestyle program, the Zero Points Foods are truly free. You have the freedom to enjoy as many and as much as you like, with the goal of feeling happily satisfied.

Rollover Points for Flexibility in Your Week

Based on current nutritional science, the SmartPoints system assigns every food a value that makes it both easier and more meaningful than counting calories. With both sensible, steady weight loss as the goal and every food and drink still on the menu, it’s a win-win.

Now enter even more flexibility into the SmartPoints system with Rollover Points.

When it comes to eating, most of us have a day-to-day routine that gets happily interrupted with dates, girls’ nights out, weekend barbeques, Sunday potlucks . . . and the list goes on!

But not to fear – Rollovers give you the flexibility to use fewer SmartPoints one day and roll over up to four into your weekly budget for a day when you need them.

So if your Daily SmartPoints Budget is 28 and you only use 24 on a particular day, you’ll be notified that evening that you have four extra SmartPoints (the maximum allotted) added to your weekly budget. Hooray! This gives you the reigns to eat leaner one day and relax a bit the next, all with the same goals and same fantastic weight loss record shared by Weight Watchers participants.

And really, this mentality best reflects real life, doesn’t it? You’ll still lose weight and have added peace of mind, much thanks to Rollover Points.

On weigh-in days, SmartPoints are reset, so it’s important to remember that rollovers last for one week only. And if you’d prefer your Weekly Bank not reflect SmartPoints rollovers, you can simply opt out in Settings.

Freestyle Activity and Physical Fitness

We all probably know that healthy eating coupled with physical activity is a winning combination to losing weight and maintaining a healthy weight thereafter.

But how to start exercising? How to choose activity that really makes a difference in my weight goals and a routine that fits with my lifestyle?

If you’re not already hitting the gym or climbing mountains on the weekend, there are new resources when joining Weight Watchers that will help get you motivated to begin a routine that works for you. After all, finding meaningful, enjoyable activity and incorporating it successfully into your lifestyle is how healthy habits are formed.

And if you’re already movin’ and shakin’, Weight Watchers Freestyle will further assist you in setting measurable goals and discover new challenges to keep you motivated and making progress.

It sounds like, despite the challenges of working with fewer daily SmartPoints, overall the Weight Watchers Freestyle is full of positive change. Let’s embrace it!

7 Weight Watchers Lunch Ideas

If you’ve been trying to lose weight for a while, you’ve probably heard all the hype about the best way to make it happen. While some of the ideas may work, temptation can end up derailing our efforts. I know that’s what was happening to me.

Tips like “train your brain to fight temptation” and “how to increase your self-control” may work for some, but facing a cafeteria filled with fattening choices, or reaching for a quick food fix, was hard for me to resist. Fortunately, I’m happy to say that I finally found a way around the temptations and it was actually a no-brainer. I came up with healthy and TASTY Weight Watchers lunch ideas. Makes sense, right? Check these out.

Tuna Salad

2 SmartPoints™

Talk about easy – just put Starkist Tuna Deli Style on a bed of lettuce with other veggies. This combo packs a lot of healthy protein and nutrients and best of all – it tastes great.

Protein Shake

2 SmartPoints™

Need Weight Watchers lunch ideas that you can enjoy on the go? Protein shakes are a great choice. My favorite is Premier Protein drink – it’s filling and tastes like dessert -the perfect combo. Protein drinks are handy for people who spend a lot of time in their cars or need a quick hunger beater after working out.

Egg Omelet

2 SmartPoints™

Whip up a delish egg omelet using egg whites (0 smart points for 1). Add 1 oz. of ham and 1 tablespoon of cheese and you have an egg omelet and it’s only 2 smart points!

Cheese Sandwich

2 SmartPoints™

You can make a cheese sandwich using a low-calorie bread like Sara Lee Delightful (only 45 calories per slice) and a low-calorie cheese like Laughing Cow Cheese (1 wedge). This combination makes a filling lunch. 1 slice of Sara Lee Delightful whole wheat bread and 1 wedge of Laughing Cow cheese comes in at only 2 SmartPoints™.

Taco Salad

3 SmartPoints™

This taco recipe was a labor of love as I came up with a version that came in at 3 SmartPoints™ instead of 22., a full day’s allowance. On top of that, it’s amazingly easy to make, taking only 5 minutes to cook! Click here for the recipe.

Trader Joe’s Pork Gyoza with Cauliflower Rice

1 SmartPoint™ per Gyoza

I love, love, love Trader Joes! They always have interesting food options to try out, many that are Weight Watchers friendly. Two of my favorite finds are their pork gyoza and cauliflower rice, bought separately. I don’t know about you, but I love Asian food and the cauliflower rice has 0 SmartPoints™ as opposed to 6 SmartPoints™ for a cup of white rice. Trader Joe’s Pork Gyoza is 1 SmartPoint™ per piece. As Weight Watchers lunch ideas go, this is one of my favorites.

Turkey Meatballs on a Bed of Zucchini

3 SmartPoints™ per Meatball

When it comes to Weight Watchers lunch ideas (great for dinner too) I love Trader Joe’s juicy, plump turkey meatballs – you’ll never want to buy beef versions again! Serve them over a nice bed of zucchini (spiral cut is best), and you have a filling, healthy lunch.

By making some of the Weight Watcher lunch ideas listed here part of your daily routine, you’ll be able to avoid weak moments when temptation hits. By replacing fatting options with wholesome, nutritious, and yes, satisfying foods, I found that I didn’t feel sluggish and enjoyed a more productive, efficient day.

There are so many delicious, weight loss friendly options available. I’d love to hear your Weight Watchers lunch ideas in the comments below.

Weight Watchers 2018 Program Changes and Review

Since it was founded in 1963, Weight Watchers has grown to be an internationally heralded weight loss solution. The program continues to be enhanced and revamped to include the most up to date nutrition research. Following are a few of the Weight Watchers 2018 program changes I’ve been able to discover so far, and a review of some of the improvements. Obviously, Weight Watchers is going to keep specifics under wraps until the big buy season, which happens right after Christmas.

Weight Watchers 2018 Program Changes

Freestyle Program

SmartPoints are here to stay! The good news is that many foods have gone down in SmartPoints value and no foods have gone up in SmartPoints. That should bring joy to many of us who find the SmartPoints system hard to follow.

New Freestyle Zero Point Foods

Wanna know what the new zero SmartPoints foods are? Here you go!

  • Fish and shellfish
  • Skinless chicken  and turkey breast
  • Eggs and egg whites
  • Non-fat plain yogurt (yay!)
  • Tofu
  • Peas, beans, lentils, and corn

Of course, veggies and fruit are still zero points (except potatoes, avocados, and olives). That should help many of us stay on track now!

SmartPoint Rollovers

You also get “rollovers now”. Rollovers allow you to have 4 SmartPoints that aren’t used in one day rolled over into your bank of weeklies. That means on those days where you don’t use them, you don’t lose them. On days where you need them the most, you get to have them. Also a great change!

Less Daily SmartPoints

Here’s the kicker. With the new Freestyle program, the number of daily SmartPoints you get has decreased. I went from 37 to 28 SmartPoints!!!  Ugh. I suppose that forces me to eat more the zero point foods, which is probably the point.  I will embrace the change and let you know how it fares down the line.

Home Delivery

One of the biggest things that might be coming in 2018 is home delivery of food! How awesome would that be? This may have something to do with Oprah’s involvement with Weight Watchers, and now everyone’s favorite lady might be coming out with a line of healthy frozen food versions of her own (like her cauliflower/mashed potato entree that’s supposed to be delish).

Weight Watchers has filed a patent application for a “smart portions” delivery service. It might look something like what they have going on with Chef’d. The company has partnered with Weight Watchers to produce a meal plan that’s custom tailored to the program and that they approve. I’m really looking forward to learning more about this one, and to me it would be one of my favorite Weight Watchers 2018 program changes.

Food Calculations

I’ve always appreciated the fact that the brand has always been able to take complicated nutrition information and turn it into a simple number using their innovative algorithm. In the past, the plan’s algorithm was centered on broad categories that included calories, fat, protein, and carbohydrates. Now, using their new formula, Weight Watchers looks at the kind of fat in a specified food, for example, with saturated fats being more heavily pointed. Also, sugar and carbohydrates are calculated separately. The good news is that there are no increases in point values for foods this year. Hooray! I already shared the bad news so if you skimmed this post…go back up!

Minor Tweaks and Improved Special Offers

Other than that, they’ll make minor tweaks and improve the current offers, but with the rise in subscribers and the loss of 40 pounds by Oprah, I don’t expect to see many changes to the SmartPoints program. It seems like everything Oprah associates herself with turns to gold, and she’s definitely added a boost the Weight Watchers brand. Nobody’s really expecting too many Weight Watcher 2018 changes because the program’s great where it currently stands.

Same Attractive Promotion

Weight Watcher’s will continue their “join free promotion” (lose 10 lbs. and your first two months are on us).  After all, when you come up with a promotion that works, why not stick to it? Talk about incentive! Besides ending up with the first two months for free, you’ll feel motivated to stick to the program for the long term because you’ll have proof positive that it works – the 10 pounds you lost.

I hope you’ve found these Weight Watchers 2018 program changes helpful. I’m a firm believer in the plan, and if you haven’t tried it yet, join and get ready to see real results. Click here to get the best deal.
